Fall Sports Yield Mixed Results

The fall sports schedule at Loyola is in full swing, and so far the results are mixed. Men's soccer has exceeded expectations with their 4-1-2 record and some impressive victories, women's soccer has matched preseason predictions, and the women's volleyball squad-- normally one of the strongest programs at LU-- is struggling in the early going.
The highlight of the early fall sports results so far has been the Ramblers' September 17th 2-0 victory at UIC in men's soccer. The Flames have been one of the two top programs (along with UW-Milwaukee) in Horizon League men's soccer over the past few years. The defeat of the Flames on the road bodes well for men's soccer, which was predicted to finish seventh in the Horizon League preseason poll.
Women's soccer, predicted to finish fourth this year, has posted a 4-4-0 record in the early going, splitting their two conference games.
The most disappointing start in fall sports belongs to the women's volleyball team, which has finished first or second in the conference every year since 1998. The Ramblers were picked to finish second in the conference in the preseason poll, but currently find themselves in last place in the league with a 5-8 record.
Some upcoming highlights from the fall sports schedules include a visit from Michigan State men's soccer on October 1 and conference favorite UW-Milwaukee on October 24; the women's soccer game against Ohio State on October 27; and women's volleyball showdowns with conference favorite UW-Milwaukee on October 11 and crosstown rival DePaul on October 14.
