RAMBLERMANIA 2009-10
Western Michigan Preview

The Ramblers return home Monday night coming off a spectacular come from behind win over Holy Cross that was capped off by a buzzer beating three-pointer to seal the victory. The 2-1 Ramblers return to the Gentile Center to take on the 1-1 Western Michigan Broncos. The Broncos lost their season opener at Horizon League foe Detroit, but posted a 16-point win over Virginia Commonwealth last week.

The Broncos are led by senior guard David Kool who is averaging 23 points, seven rebounds and nearly five assists in the early going of the season. Kool scored 16 against the Ramblers last season as Loyola posted a 54-51 victory at Kalamazoo.

Senior forward Matelle Mclemore is averaging 17 points and eight rebounds a contest. A third senior in the starting lineup is 6-10 center Donald Lawson. Lawson is coming off his first career double double and is averaging nine points and 6.5 rebounds a game.

The Broncos third double digit scorer is sophomore forward Flenard Whitfield. The 6-7 220 pounder is averaging 12 points and 5.5 rebounds a game.

Another sophomore, guard Mike Douglas, rounds out the Broncos starting lineup. The six-footer is second on the club in assists behind Kool.

The Broncos lost a bit of firepower from last season’s MAC West championship squad and were picked to finish fifth in the division this season. A season opening loss to Detroit was a bit of a disappointment, but the upset victory over VCU has Broncos back on the right path.

Kool is a do-everything kind of player and is coming off a 17 point, nine rebound and four assist performance in the VCU win. Meanwhile, Mclemore posted career highs across the board and freshman Nate Hutcheson posted a nine point six rebound performance. If the Broncos get similar performances tonight they could cause trouble for the Ramblers.
