The Ramblers will have their hands full with the backcourt duo of Denis Clemente and Jacob Pullen. Clemente is an electric player with tremendous quickness and the ability to hit the outside shot. The streaky Pullen has the ability to go off for 20 points on any given night and can also hit the outside shot. Pullen is also an excellent defender, having notched 54 steals a season ago.
Up front the Wildcats will present the usual size issues when a mid-major takes on a team from the Big 12. Senior center Luis Colon stands nearly seven-feet tall and will pose some issues for the Ramblers. He averaged 4.4 point and 4.7 rebounds a season ago in just under 20 minutes of action a night. Junior forward Dominique Sutton averaged 7.5 points and is the top returning rebounder at over five boards per contest. Curtis Kelly is a 6-8 forward who transferred from UConn and will provide bulk up front. Sophomore Jamar Samuels is another piece in the front court puzzle. He averaged nearly five rebounds a season ago.
The Wildcats had one of the top recruiting classes in the country highlighted by forward Wally Judge a 6-9 bruiser at 248 pounds. Also in the class were seven-footer Jordan Henriquez-Roberts and 6-4 Rodney McGruder.
The Ramblers will be overmatched by the big and deep frontcourt that the Jayhawks possess. The bad part about it all is that their backcourt is more experienced and savvy than the frontcourt. The Wildcats have won six-straight season openers and 12-straight home openers with just one home loss to open the season in the 22-year history of Bramlage Coliseum.
