Monday, December 10, 1962 vs. Wisconsin-Milwaukee at Alumni Gym
In what Chicago Tribune Loyola beat writer Richard Dozer called "the cruelest mismatch of the season," Loyola scored their third consecutive triple-digit game while holding the UWM squad to only 47 points.
UW-Milwaukee was not the most stellar competition available, even by early season standards. The Milwaukee branch of the state university to the north had only recently expanded from a teachers college to a full-fledged university in 1956, and none of their players received scholarships.
On a cold Monday night in Chicago with the students away from campus on Winter break, only 1293 folks showed up at Alumni Gym to see Loyola begin the game with a 30-6 run over the first nine minutes. Could it be that the Ramblers played even better without their fellow students in attendance? By the time the contest reached halftime, Loyola held a 49-12 lead.
By the end of the game, Jerry Harkness had tallied 23 points, John Egan 21 points, and the Rambler rebounders built an astounding 70-42 margin off the boards.
The Ramblers' 107-47 win took their record to 3-0 on the season. For the third time in a row, Loyola scored over 100 points, and for the third time in a row the Ramblers played 12 players in the game. After the first three games of the season, Loyola was averaging more than twice as many points as their opposition.
