Thursday, January 10, 1963 vs. Western Michigan at Kalamazoo
Loyola had received a bit of a scare from Western Michigan in their 123-102 victory over the Broncos in the fourth game of the season back in December, but the Ramblers were ready when they faced them a second time in Kalamazoo.
A full house of 6,500 in Read Fieldhouse, Loyola took an early 31-18 lead on a tie-breaking 13-0 run. But the running and gunning Broncos were able to recover and close the gap to 50-42 at halftime behind 20 points in the game from Manny Newsome, who had torched them for 26 in their first meeting in December.
By now, Loyola's second-half surges were becoming worthy of a patent, and the Ramblers poured on 57 points in the final 20 minutes to the Broncos' 27. Loyola eclipsed the 100-point mark for the eighth time in the season en route to their 15th victory, 107-69.
Jerry Harkness led the way for the Ramblers again with 26 points leading all scorers. Newsome led the Broncos with 20. Loyola led the nation by far in rebounds, and they snagged another 58 of them against Western Michigan's 48.
